Internet Killed the Video Star

Internet Killed the Video Star

$14.99

“The Internet, in all its semantic glory, has collated the disparate countries and continents into one cohesive digital global village and instantaneously signaled the arrival of globalization. This digital revolution has rendered many business models and industries obsolete by placing the power of art, commerce, and science into the hands of the common people. Such is the case of the music industry. This is a very brief treatise on the much written about subject of the digital music revolution. It is important to note that whatever decisions are made in the first two decades of the 21st century will invariably serve as a fairly accurate barometer in determining the outcome for the remainder of the century and perhaps beyond. If this tiny volume can serve as a contributing factor to the confluence of factors that will lead to the empowerment of the common people, then I would be honored.”

Virtually all the established artists of music to maintain web sites – or their record label it does for them. Some use them as a personal connection for fans, by providing periodic blog entries. It is a tool to sell a few CDs in recent years to announce the tour dates and provide a link for fans. There are also sites of hardcore fans, especially for veteran bands like the Rolling Stones and Aerosmith, who have collected twenty-five or thirty dollars Fan. True also for musicians who are long gone, you can find many sites for Elvis and others for ground breaking rockers like Eddie Cochran and Buddy Holly.

Many recent acts maintain web sites, but almost all emerging musicians who use multiple resources on aggression web. The biggest online phenomenon in the world of music has been the emergence of MySpace, and to a lesser extent, other social networking sites Social as Pandora and Pure Volume. For some groups, MySpace has supplanted the need for a personal site.

At the end of the year 2005 more than 600,000 bands were using MySpace to upload songs and videos, announce shows, promote albums and interact with fans. The reason? There are 50 million potential viewers on MySpace, and many of them use the site to find new music as well as established acts. MySpace has acted on the remarkable blend of music, listeners and their web site starting a label.

Acts established as Nine Inch Nails and Madonna, Wheezer and Depeche Mode spotted albums and videos on the site before releasing them. MySpace Music is a focal point of choice for bands and fans. Singer Dashboard Confessional believes that MySpace is what drove the band's success, leading to their record contract.

What differentiates MySpace and similar sites such as Pure volume outside the web presence of established powers of music as MTV.com and Rollingstone.com is the inclusiveness inherent in a site social networking. All artists are welcome on MySpace, from Christian rockers to Thrashers Death Metal. Equally important is the format: everything on the site is related to something else. Click on the image of a user and you are sent a profile with photos, blogs, interest Personal and links to cyber pals and bands. Keep clicking and you are sent to more profiles in search results.

Regional Coppermine rock act from Brooklyn is an example of the promotional power of MySpace. Jonathan Buck, guitarist and singer of the group said that his Group profile on MySpace has attracted about 300,000 visitors. The band can instantly distribute messages and news to more than 115,000 MySpace users who have added Coppermine as a "friend" to their own profile. Through this network in place, Coppermine no longer has to devote time and money to flood radio stations with CDs or plastering concert posters around town.

Record labels understand that the Internet is the most effective promotional and communication devices there. Radio is more limited forms are fewer and the consolidation in the radio industry has reduced air safety, established acts. When the last time you saw a video on MTV, or at least one complete? The Internet and social networking sites have become the source of choice for music and music videos to millions of fans.
