Music suggestions – similar to gospel?

Does anyone know a genre of music that would be similar to gospel or choir music…just less religious? I like the big voices and stong notes, but would prefer something a little less religious. Know what that genre is called? Or can you suggest some bands/artists?

One genre that is similiar to gospel in a way would be bluegrass.

For Joanne Cash, the heart of the song is what inspires the music she performs. Growing up in the legendary Cash family with her siblings Johnny and Tommy both making a name for themselves in the Country Music industry, it almost seemed natural for Joanne to follow the same path. However her heart led her down a different path and that was with Gospel music. With her singing career spanning nearly 40 years in the Christian music industry, along with having a full time ministry with her husband Dr. Harry Yates at the Nashville Cowboy Church, Joanne has put together some of the best material of her previous projects to create this Gospel album. This album of great hymns and original songs will forever find a place in her home, car or office!

First Family of Gospel Music

First Family of Gospel Music

$13.99

“First Family of Gospel Music” – It’s both a figurative and fairly literal title. On the literal side, The Speer Family was formed in 1921 by G.T. “Dad” Speer and his wife, Lena “Mom” Speer. On the figurative side, for much of the next 80 years, The Speer Family was firmly planted at the top of the Gospel Music world. Their travels took them from small churches to performances at the White House to being a part of the Gaither Homecoming phenomenon. The group and its members received 14 Dove Awards as well as numerous Grammy nominations and many number one songs from a discography of close to 100 albums. Although the honors and accolades are impressive, what people remember most are simply… the songs: Songs that have deeply embedded themselves in the hearts and lives of those who came in contact with the Speer Family. Known for their commitment to excellence, they’ve often been labeled the group that personified professionalism.
